You’ll learn how to safely mix mason stains into clay and slip, then experiment with techniques like painting with slip, marbling clay, nerikomi, and neriage to create stunning patterns and visual effects.
This class is designed for curious clay explorers who’ve taken a few classes before and want to keep building their skills, as well as experienced potters who want to expand their surface and color vocabulary through colored clay.
Please note: This class demonstration focused to provide you with more technical insight on mason stains. Participants will have 2.5 hours of guided studio time to experiment with the day's lessons, ensuring you leave with the confidence to execute more complex projects on your own.
What’s Included for Each Student:
One bag of white stoneware or porcelain.
One pint of white decorating slip.
Three mason stains, 1/2 lb each (colors chosen ahead of class—look for an email with your options 2 weeks prior).
All materials for preparing and mixing colored clay.
A printed guide to mason stains.
Studio tools and safety equipment (gloves and masks)
2.5 hours of guided studio time.
Glaze time/firing is not included but can be scheduled and paid for separately through our website once your pieces are bisque-fired.
Maximum of 8 students in this class.
At least 3 people must be enrolled in the class for the class to run.
Ages 16+. Minors must be accompanied by an adult.
Note: This is a one day, 7 hour class.
